GCi Technologies is striving to develop new innovative magnetics products for
use in the power conversion, telecommunications and automotive industries. These
industries demand increasingly compact and highly efficient components to deliver
the power levels required in numerous applications. As both the size and power
demands upon conventional transformers and inductors are becoming increasingly
hard to satisfy, GCi Technologies is taking an alternate approach to new product
design. GCi Technologies is designing magnetics devices based on the planar principle.
In planar magnetics design, the copper spiral windings are integrated into copper-clad
printed circuit boards. These windings and the appropriately selected insulators
are then carefully positioned between the appropriately selected ferrite cores
to form a compact package. Utilizing this construction method allows for a compact
magnetics device and it yields some attractive performance characteristics.
Planar Transformer
Planar Transformer
- Low profile packages which allow for high power density designs
- Typical component efficiencies up to 98%
- Typical leakage inductances of 0.2% of primary inductance
- Broad operating frequency ranges from 20kHz to more than 1MHz
- Broad operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +130°C
- Good cooling conduction
- Low EMI emission
- High parameter repeatability
Planar magnetics designs are proving to be a cost effective solution for satisfying
the increasingly high-density power conversion needs of the power conversion,
telecommunications and automotive industries. GCi Technologies plans to be on
the leading edge of this new product development activity. |
